Why should you hire a relocation guide?

Throughout the process of preparing for your relocation, your company will likely contact a real estate agent to help you find a new location, contacted an architect to help plan your new space, and a construction manager to help you deliver your new space on time.  You may think that you have everything covered. Do you really need to hire a Relocation Guide to manage getting you into a new space? Why can’t you just call a mover?

When your organization is moving to a new location, your entire organization is at risk. Relocation guides are project managers specializing in controlling the chaos of commercial relocations and in conjunction with expert vendor partners can take on much of the planning and execution work saving your organization both time and money.

Consider:

  • What will be the total cost and overall impact of your relocation on your organization?

  • How will you ensure that your customers be able to easily find your new location?

  • Who are you legally required to notify when your company moves locations?

  • Will your existing IT infrastructure be sufficient in your new space?

  • How will your employees know where to go on day one?

  • Does your relocation afford you the opportunity to optimize how you work?

  • What are your requirements for decommissioning your existing space?

Most organizations relocate less than once every decade. This leads to a lack of experience at most organizations in managing relocations resulting in a lot of time being spent learning new tasks that are likely not to be repeated.   While planning and managing your relocation in-house is possible, for many organizations it becomes an inefficient and costly endeavor.

For a general office of 100 employees, fully planning a relocation, will take approximately 8 months, not including time spent before a decision is made doing feasibility and due diligence work and searching for a location, or time performing change-management after the relocation to adjust and adapt to the new environment.  For an office of this size, planning in-house would have a significant impact on operations, pulling over 5,000 man hours away from existing tasks.
